School & Camp Tours

HALPS offers educational tours for schools and camp groups from early May thru mid October. Our education coordinator will work with the educators from your organization to design an interactive tour that fits the needs of your students and your curriculum and help arrange appropriate boat transportation.

Depending on group size, classes are usually divided into small groups and rotate through stations focusing on: life for a family on the lighthouse, reasons people settled on the river and the rise of transportation, boats seen on the river and their purpose; why the lighthouse was built and navigation. They climb to the top of the tower and experience the 360 degree view of the Hudson River, with binoculars.

Classes and campers may bring their snacks or lunches to enjoy outside on the prow. Tours will range in time, depending on the goal of the tour and the age of those in attendance.
